Seed Cycling for Hormone Balance
Have you ever heard of seed cycling? Seed cycling is a holistic therapy which has been around for hundreds of years. It works by eating specific seeds during the two main phases of your menstrual cycle (follicular and luteal) to help optimize estrogen and progesterone balance. It’s a gentle and completely natural way to reduce PMS symptoms, boost fertility, and can help stimulate menstruation in the event of amenorrhea.
Seed cycling can be used at any stage of a woman’s life (including post-menopause). However, it’s especially beneficial when coming off of hormonal birth control or struggling with post-birth control syndrome symptoms like acne, irregular periods or missing periods, or PMS.
Here’s how it works:
If you’re menstruating, from day one of your period to ovulation. If not, from the new moon to the full moon. (1-14)
2 tablespoons flax, chia and hemp seeds ground in a coffee grinder or nutribullet. Feel free to make ahead of time and keep in a jar in the fridge.
Optional: 2g flax seed oil
From ovulation to menses or from full moon to new moon. (14-28)
2 tablespoons sesame, sunflower and pumpkin seeds ground in a coffee grinder or nutribullet. Feel free to make ahead of time and keep an extra jar full in the fridge.
Optional: 2g evening primrose oil
Now let’s make it yummy!
Recipe for a better you…
Hormone Balancing Energy Balls
Ground seed powder
Nut butter
Maple syrup
Mini chocolate chips
Take your two tablespoons of whichever seed powder cycle you’re in and in a bowl with a fork mash with 1 tsp peanut or almond butter and 1/2 tsp organic maple syrup until a dough forms. Roll into a ball and press in a few chocolate chips or one single chocolate chunk. I prefer to use monk fruit sweetened chocolate chips or a square of paleo chocolate. It works best when you make your full weeks worth of energy balls ahead of time!
